Frequently Asked Questions
Lukim Metal builds custom range hoods to the size, shape and ventilation needs of the kitchen, which standard models are not designed to match. A custom hood can follow the kitchen’s style, from sleek and modern to classic and ornate. Metal hoods are also durable and suited to the heat and grease of everyday cooking.
Custom range hoods from Lukim Metal can be personalized in size, shape, metal, finish and detailing. Metals include stainless steel, copper, brass and bronze, and finishes range from brushed, polished and hammered to patinated and powder-coated. Decorative details such as straps, rivets and custom motifs can be added to suit the kitchen.
Box, bell, curved, double-curved, open-front and fully custom range hoods are all made by Lukim Metal. Because the panels are cut and formed in-house, curved and crowned designs can often be produced as welded sections with finished seams instead of being assembled from stock parts.
Yes, Lukim Metal makes the straps, trims and rivets for wood range hoods. They are cut from drawings to the size of the wooden hood so they sit where the design intends, in solid brass, stainless or an aged finish. The work is coordinated with the cabinet maker who builds the wood.
Every hood Lukim Metal makes starts as a CAD model and a set of shop drawings, so the size, shape and details are agreed before anything is cut. The panels are then laser cut, formed on a press brake, welded and ground smooth. The hood is finished in the same shop and installed by the same team.
Designer-led hoods are a regular part of the work at Lukim Metal. The designer sends the concept, and the team turns it into shop drawings with the construction details, checks the dimensions against the kitchen, and sends them back for approval before fabrication starts.
Lukim Metal builds the hood shell around the insert or blower selected for the kitchen, so the hood is sized to the cooktop and the equipment it houses. Width, height and the chimney or duct cover are set in the shop drawings to suit the range, cabinets and ceiling. The blower capacity and duct route should be confirmed with the kitchen designer or HVAC contractor before fabrication.
Lukim Metal makes range hoods both ways. A solid copper, brass or bronze hood is fabricated from that metal throughout and can develop a natural patina when left unsealed. A plated hood uses stainless steel as the base material with a brass or copper finish, providing a similar appearance at a lower material cost. Protective coatings can help maintain a more consistent colour, while unsealed solid metals are chosen for their natural aging characteristics.
Custom range hoods from Lukim Metal generally cost between $3,000 and $8,500 depending on the material, size, shape, finish, decorative details and installation requirements. Stainless steel is generally the most affordable option, followed by plated stainless, while solid copper, brass and bronze typically cost more. Curved, bell-shaped and crowned designs require additional forming and welding compared with simple box hoods. Hammered, polished and patina finishes, decorative straps and rivets, and complex installation requirements can also increase the final price.
