Frequently Asked Questions
Lukim Metal creates the patina with an in-house chemical finishing process on high-quality copper, which produces organic textures and rich, evolving hues. The colour and texture are agreed against a sample before production, since the result varies naturally with the metal.
Yes, Lukim Metal can make patina doors and shelves to the sizes of the cabinets and openings in the project. Dimensions, hinge positions and shelf layouts are set on the drawings before fabrication, so the pieces match the cabinetry and the rest of the space.
Lukim Metal forms and welds the copper into doors and shelves sized to the cabinetry, then applies its chemical patina finish in-house. Because the patina develops on the finished piece, the colour is checked against the agreed sample before the doors and shelves are installed.
Lukim Metal makes copper patina doors and shelves for commercial interiors such as restaurants and bars, and for residential cabinetry, millwork and feature storage, as in the doors and shelves fabricated for a downtown Toronto wine bar. The finish adds depth and a weathered copper character.
To quote doors and shelves, Lukim Metal needs the number and sizes of the pieces, the cabinet or opening drawings, and the patina look wanted. Photos help, and the team can measure on site. Drawings and a finish sample are prepared for approval before fabrication begins.
A typical custom copper patina doors and shelves project from Lukim Metal costs between $4,000 and $5,000 depending on the number and size of the pieces, the copper and the patina finish. Larger projects need more fabrication and finishing. The reference price excludes applicable taxes, delivery and installation.
